What is primary care?

In Japan, if you have a stuffy nose, you go directly to an ENT specialist, and if you injure your leg, you go to an orthopedic surgeon. However, in the United States, it is common to first seek treatment from a family doctor who provides primary care. Primary care includes general medicine, family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, and obstetrics and gynecology, and doctors who provide primary care are called PCPs (Primary Care Physicians). They receive broad training in areas such as internal medicine and pediatrics, and if they determine that a specialist's examination or treatment is necessary, they will refer you to the appropriate specialist. At Japan Clinic San Diego, we provide primary care in all specialties, including internal medicine, pediatrics, surgery, gynecology, orthopedics, dermatology, otolaryngology, and venereal disease

Comprehensive health checkups / Corporate health screenings

At San Diego Japan Clinic, we offer a variety of regular health checkup packages, also known as comprehensive health checkups, to support the health management of those living abroad

The key to detecting lifestyle-related diseases, the primary objective of a comprehensive health checkup, lies in the patient's social background, medical history, and family medical history. These factors are crucial in exploring what disease-causing factors a person may have and the likelihood of developing them

Examples of diseases discovered outside of the four major lifestyle-related diseases include colorectal cancer and prostate problems in men, and breast cancer and uterine diseases in women. If these diseases are detected in their early stages and treated appropriately, complete recovery is possible. Colorectal cancer, and in women, breast cancer and cervical cancer, are typical examples of this, and early screening leads to the early detection of these diseases

At Nihon Clinic, we not only provide meticulous, Japanese-style service, offering thorough health checkups with attention to every detail, but also comprehensive follow-up services after the examination. For your own health, for your career, for a fulfilling life, and for the sake of your family, we recommend that you undergo a health checkup at least once a year

*Please note that comprehensive health checkups like those offered by Nippon Clinic are generally not covered by standard US insurance plans. Therefore, Nippon Clinic's comprehensive health checkups are not typically covered by insurance. However, depending on your company's contract, some coverage may be possible, so please check with your company's HR/insurance department
